Hi Reader, and happy Winter Solstice!

I have a thank you gift for you, for being here this year (whenever you joined us), liking my work, buying my patterns... I wouldn't get to do this without you.

So let me introduce the Licht Hat, my newest free pattern.

Licht, meaning light in the Scots language [lixt], is a fun free hat project that combines cluster stitches and cables to create embossed trees on the surface of the fabric. As we reach the Winter Solstice of 2023, I think it's only fitting that we celebrate the light we do have on this shortest day of year and that is where Licht gets its name from.

Licht knits up quickly in bulky yarn – perfect for last minute gifts, or a satisfying palette cleanser for yourself. Plus, it’s just the right length for snuggling up with a holiday movie or two. And of course, no cosy hat would be complete without a pom-pom!

Details

This free pattern comes in 3 sizes: child, adult S/M and adult L.

Use Super Chunky or Bulky weight yarns (wool, acrylic or blends are ideal).

We used WYS Retreat Super Chunky Roving Yarn in Wonder 1124.

Tree Motif Tutorial

I made this tutorial to show you exactly how to do the tree motifs, so even if you're a fairly new knitter you should still be able to complete this hat project!

I hope that it brings some licht to your life at this dark time of year! See you in 2024!
